About me

Hi, I am Maro!

I am a digital strategist working with boutique and exclusive hospitality clients around the world.

My journey began way before I could even write, when my mother told me about how a writer can write tens of pages on a single grey stone. The moral of that story never stuck, and evades me to this day, but the fascination with the art of writing remained – and defined me: as soon as I learned how to write, I went on to use that newfound skill to its maximum, writing sequels to my favorite books (#fanfiction #beforeitwascool), and as soon as I had to choose a job, I knew it would have to do with writing.

Since then I have been working, playing, and traveling with the written word: I read compulsively, then plan roadtrips (and occasionally take them) to places I read about, I write stories and poems and comics, I have worked as a reporter, a writing tutor to university students, a content designer for print magazines, a copywriter for topics ranging from energy efficiency to politics to travel, a speechwriter, a content designer, a content marketer and finally a communications consultant.

A naturally curious person, I fell in love with the internet as soon as it came to my life (yes, I am that *ahem* “experienced”), and took my words there too, creating content for websites, creating and writing blogs for fun and for business, participating, managing and creating active online communities and managing web projects along the way.

Throughout this journey I have worked in many fascinating projects in the fields of politics, health, retail, FMCG, hospitality and tourism (including the city of Athens digital presence and the GNTO social media strategy design and implementation), collaborating with numerous clients and agencies to develop digital strategies, design content for offline and online campaigns and marketing and communication activations and to write content, in English as well as in Greek, for all sorts of industries.

A few more things about me:

  • I live in Greece – splitting my time between Athens and Crete.
  • I read (and write) comics. Batman is my favorite superhero.
  • I believe cheese, especially the cretan graviera, is God’s gift to humans.
  • I do not multitask. I believe that one thing at a time makes for saner humans and flawless projects. Plus, my mind loves to be completely consumed by one question, before jumping to the next. I have learned not to go against my mind’s wishes.
  • I grew up reading children’s mystery books. Then kept on reading adult mystery novels. I believe in reason, discovery, deduction, research, testing. I cannot help it.
  • I studied history at the American College of Greece and did my M.A. in European Politics in the U.K., at Essex Uni. I loved it, and came out of it more tolerant, rational and with a soft spot for grand ideas.
  • I read encyclopedias for fun.
